Looking For A Propane Supplier? Here's 3 Questions To Ask

by Antonin Fontai

Trying to find someone to provide you with the propane you need for your home isn't always as simple as you might like. As you look through the advertisements, you tend to see every company saying the same basic information. You need to be able to weed through all of the jargon and figure out which one is really going to give you the best possible deal for the amount of money you are going to spend. Remember, it isn't always about price. There are other things that are equally important. Here are a few simple questions to ask a potential supplier when trying to narrow down your choices on where to get your propane tank.

Is automatic delivery available?

Some companies operate on an automatic delivery system while others wait for the customer to call before they bring anything out to them. It is important that you know what system they offer to make sure it is going to work for you and your needs. Some people prefer to have their propane delivered on a regular basis to eliminate any fears or worries about running out because something came up and they couldn't call. Make sure to ask to prevent any surprises down the road with delivery.

Is there a fee to rent the tank?

Many companies charge customers a fee to rent their propane tank. However, that isn't the case with all companies. You need to ask for clarification as to what fees are going to be assessed with your propane tank. Whether it be a service charge to deliver the fuel or an extra fee each month just to have the tank on your property, you need to know what amount you are going to pay and how often. It is often better to rent the tank than it is to buy one on your own. If something goes wrong with the rental, you can turn to the company to come out and take care of it for you.

Are there minimum usage requirements?

Some providers have minimum requirements that you have to meet to avoid being charged a fee for their tank. Ask what the minimums are. If you don't think you are going to use that much, see if there are any other alternative options available to you to prevent paying a fee for using a smaller amount. Service providers will often have different delivery options to help find a plan that is going to work for your needs.

By asking the questions above, you can get a propane tank that is going to work for you and your family today.
